PORVORIM: A total of 5,075 applications have been cleared under the Atal Asara Yojana in Goa over the last five years, while 86 applications remain pending, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said.
In the Mayem constituency, 492 applications have been approved since 2022. However, beneficiaries are yet to receive the financial assistance in their bank accounts in some cases.
Phal Dessai said funds cannot be credited unless the beneficiary’s Aadhaar is linked to the bank account. He added that the Social Welfare Department will directly assess applications to speed up the approval process.
The minister said beneficiaries can apply through both online and offline modes. Door-to-door assistance will also be provided to senior citizens wherever required.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries currently receive ₹1.5 lakh. Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Department has proposed increasing assistance for constructing a new house from ₹3 lakh to ₹4 lakh, while assistance for house repairs could be increased to ₹2 lakh.
