The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Goa Dental College and Hospital, in collaboration with the National Tobacco Control Programme, Directorate of Health Services, Goa, commemorated ‘THE WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY’ by organizing “5th Goa Anti Tobacco Film Festival 2023” on 31st May 2023 at 4 pm at Auditorium 1, Maquinez Palace, ESG.
Those present on the dais were Mrs Delilah M. Lobo, MLA Siolim Constituency & Vice Chairman, ESG, Dr Anita Spadigam, Professor and Head, Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Goa Dental College and Hospital, Ms Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, ESG, Panaji, Goa and Dr Amita Kenkre, Dentist and Professor, Goa Dental College. Also present were Dr Kedar Raikar and Peter Borges.
The theme for this year’s festival was “We need food, not tobacco”. The competition was held in two sections, National Section Ad films. and Goan section Ad films. We had received the following entries:-
National Section: – Ad Films = 14
Goan Section: – Ad Films = 15
We had 3 members Jury, Dr Meena Aras, Professor and Head, Department of Prosthodontics, Goa Dental College and Hospital, Dr Shaheen Syed, Consultant Physiatrist, Asilo Hospital, DNO, DTCC N Goa, and Shri. Sachin Chatte, Film Critics, judged all ad film entries.
The winners of Ad Film for National Section:
1st Prize Winner of Rs. 100000/- (“Tinku Weds Madhubala” – Satish R. Gaonkar)
2nd Prize Winner of Rs. 50000/- (“Alaav” – KickFairy Productions)
3rd Prize Winner of Rs. 30000/- (“Nirnay” – Amit S. Phadte)
The winners of Ad Film for Goa Section:
1st Prize Winner of Rs. 50000/- (“Dhuvar” – Omkar Kalidas Naik)
2nd Prize Winner of Rs. 30000/- (“Smoke & Soil” – Kartik Sandip Karekar)
3rd Prize Winner of Rs. 20000/- (“Moment” – Manmesh Kerkar)
Dr Amita Kenkre Kamat of Goa Dental College welcomed the gathering and also briefed the purpose of this festival and said that the aim of the Anti Tobacco Film Festival was to spread the message of harmful or ill effects of tobacco use. She also mentioned that ESG, in association with The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Goa Dental College and Hospital, has successfully organised this festival since 2017, becoming the calendar event thereon. She also thanked the participants and the audience present.
Ms Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, ESG, in her speech, said that every individual and Media should take social initiative and make a continuous effort to fight against Tobacco and its ill effects. She also quoted that Laws should be made strict about decreasing the use of Tobacco.
Mrs Delilah M. Lobo, MLA Siolim Constituency & Vice Chairman, ESG, said that Cinema is a powerful medium through which the audience grasp maximum, and it has a big Impact and people have become aware of the ill effect of Tobacco. She also said that these films will be used for promotions of ad. campaigns for Anti Tobacco in schools, colleges and other government department programs and constituencies. She also thanked the participants for making efforts to make the films.
The winners were awarded at the hands of Mrs Delilah M. Lobo, Dr Anita Spadigam, Ms Jyoti Kumari, IAS and Dr. Amita Kenkre.
All the Ad. film were screened for the public.
