CANACONA – Residents of Galgibaga cry foul as authorities fail to remove a jungle tree uprooted and dangerously lying hanging to a coconut tree for the last 21 days.
Fire Services came, and saw but claimed they did not have the required expertise to cut and remove the huge tree without causing side damages in the vicinity, and left without doing anything. At the same time, there is no response from Taluka Disaster management authority, claims a neighbouring family claiming a severe threat to life and property if the tree is not removed safely before monsoon fury.
“Otherwise, also this tree which got its roots broken in the sudden whirlwind witnessed a fortnight ago, is resting on a coconut tree, and only a miracle can avoid its fall directly on the electricity alignment if the coconut tree gives away due to its weight, will also damage our compound wall, and besides poses a direct threat to the school nearby”, informed the woman.
Shri Shradhanad Primary School is situated in very close proximity, and if this is allowed to continue with the present situation, school students will be directly exposed to this threat as well.
“We had alerted the ward Panch and everyone concerned about the danger we are anticipating, but not even the Dy Collector office seems interested in coming to our rescue by attending to this problem. Everyone says they have submitted our concern to higher-ups, but the solution is in sight as 20 days are already over. The fire brigade came but said they did not have the proper expertise to remove this tree without causing side damage,” the locals said.
The locals added that the fire personnel said they would simply cut the tree and fall, causing damage to the properties and left without finding a solution.
According to sources, the fallen tree is on a government property having the primary school, but besides threatening the safety of the school and students is also posing direct safety concerns to neighbouring residents and their properties.
