Aam Aadmi Party today announced the programme of its “Veej Andolan” which will be launched from 1st December and be held till 19th December before taking a Christmas break. The findings of the referendum conducted during this programme will be presented to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
Announcing the programme AAP Goa convener Rahul Mhambre said this will be a state wide event, every day there will be four corner meetings at different places and urged Goans to attend them along with their electricity bills so that the same could be discussed at the meeting itself.
“These meetings won’t have one sided speeches but will be a dialogue with Goans mainly aimed to know their view point on high power tariffs in goa with frequent outages.
“We fail to understand why the BJP government in Goa is not willing to offer free electricity to Goans as is being done in Delhi,” he said while also pointing out that the BJP is offering free electricity to residents of Hyderabad as per their election manifesto there.
He said Goa continues to suffer from irregular power supply and constant fluctuations which is causing much misery to the people particularly students who have online classes which are regularly irregular due to power failures and fluctuations due to which they cannot get net connection.
“Electricity is not a luxury particularly in the times of pandemic and it has become a necessity and Dr Pramod is duty bound to provide this necessity to the people of Goa,” he said demanding to know what is happening to the alleged Rs. 1.40 lakhs being spent on each Goan as per the Goa budget.
If Delhi can provide free electricity to its residents by spending only Rs. 30,000 per individual as per the budget, why is the same not possible in Goa where the government is reportedly spending Rs. 1.40 lakhs per individual, he asked.
Rahul asked Goans to wholeheartedly participate in the Vij Andolan and asked people to call toll free number 7504750475 following which they will get a call seeking their answers to the three questions asked in the referendum.
“response on missed call number is overwhelming which itself speaks about the magnitude of the electricity problem goans are facing”
He also spoke about how more than 600 volunteers across goa are already visiting every household of goa to spread awareness of the veej andolan and are receiving a great response towards this campaign
He disclosed that the Veej Andolan will kick off tomorrow 1st December with four meetings at different places which will commence at 6 pm. The meetings will be held at Perodem Ground in Benaulim, MES junction at Sancoale, Karmali market and near Saligao Village Panchayat.
