MOPA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that an Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) will be conducted in the excise department scam if needed
“Vigilance department to inquire into excise scam already done and if required will hand it over to Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB),” said Sawant
He further said that three officers of the excise department have already been suspended and an inquiry will be conducted.
Sawant said that investigation is on into the alleged Excise Department scam and that money would be recovered from the scamsters and action will be initiated against the culprits.
He also said that recovery will be done from those involved and stern action will also be taken against those found guilty.
An alleged scam wherein some officials allegedly issued fake licences and renewals to licence holders and issued fake receipts to operate liquor business and siphoned the payment made by them.
Commissioner of excise Narayan Gad has issued orders suspending excise inspectors Durgesh Naik and Vibhuti Shetye and upper division clerk Harish Naik over the excise financial scam that took place at Pernem excise station.
UDC Harish Naik, who is suspected to be the key accused in the scam, allegedly issued challans signed by Vibhuti Shetye and Durgesh Naik. This happened from 2017 to 2022.
As per the information, the excise department has recovered `16.81 lakh and interest amount from 2017 to 2022 totalling `27.78 lakh from Harish Naik.
