CURTI: The state government will open a Goa College of Veterinary Sciences at Curti, Ponda later this year, according to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s announcement on Tuesday.
According to Sawant, the government is waiting for approval from the Veterinary Council to launch the 60-seat Bachelor of Animal Husbandry and Animal Sciences degree program.
Sawant stated, “The admissions process will start in October if we receive approval in September.”
He was speaking following his Tuesday inspection of Curti’s veterinary facility.
As candidates from Goa would need to travel out of state for the course, Sawant stated that the government has been working to establish a veterinary college since the agriculture college was established.
The state government provides funding to about eight students for the veterinary degree program. However, Sawant stated that more state students will have the opportunity to become veterinary doctors now that the government has established its own college.
The field of veterinary medicine offers plenty of opportunities for professionals, both domestically and globally. Second, the state will benefit from having better physicians and veterinary care thanks to our college. The state may decide in the future to establish a top-notch veterinary facility,” he stated.
