CANACONA: Is the long–awaited Canacona’s mega multi-crore prestigious project – Ravindra Bhjavan is getting ready for inauguration on 27th July, almost two months from now on the occasion of the Birthday of Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.
Incidentally, the revelations came from the Speaker himself who according to sources has informally mentioned that over 90% of the works at the Ravindra Bhavan are complete and expects to finish-off the remaining works within the next two months. It is also stated that even if some of the minor works remain incomplete then the same will be carried out within the next 25-20 days of the inauguration. But, the inauguration of Canacona Ravindra Bhavan will be held on 27th July’.
Canacona’s Ravindra Bhavan has gained unprecedented infamy for missing out on several dates for its completion and inauguration, ever since it initially first missed the date of commencement of works, after the foundation stone was laid by then Chief minister late Manohar Parikar on the occasion of birthday celebrations of newly ordained Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on 27th July ‘2012.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had then informed that the works on this prestigious project will actually commence in Sept 2013 and it will be completed in 18 months duration until 2015. However, the works as assured didn’t take –off until 2017, just before the code of conduct came into force of that year’s Assembly elections and the deadline for completion was in 2019.
The construction works, however, continued at a snail’s pace, inviting the wreath of Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, who not only bitterly complained with the GSIDC, but raised the issue of completion of only 30% of works in the Goa Assembly for the inordinate delay in executing of works. GSIDC had then assured to complete the remaining works in the next 12 months by 19 December 2020.
With yet another change in guard at the state level and at Canacona, while GSIDC gave 2023 December as the new date for completion and commissioning of the project, two more dates were provided by political bosses for its completion.
After inspecting the ongoing works separately Arts and Culture Minister Govind Gaude informed Ravindra Bhavan at Canacona will be completed by August of 2023 and accordingly issued directions to the Arts & Culture Director on the spot. A short while later, Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar too inspected the ongoing works and declared that Canacona’s pride project would be completed by Sept-Oct.
As all the three new dates passed –out, locals and particularly activists were hoping against hope that the project would be completed on 26th January, and as that date too was crossed, and only the internal works were underway, were pinning hope for inauguration before 31st May, particularly on the clue that Arts and Culture Minister Govind Gaude is very keen to throw the project for public use very soon.
While the works continue to linger on and expect to drag still ahead, it is learnt that come what may, Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar has taken it in his stride to inaugurate the project on his birthday, even if the works are cent per cent no complete in all respects.
The 59.28 cr project is nearing completion at a sprawling land admeasuring 8306 sqm in the heart of Chaudi town, Canacona.
