VALPOI: The citizens of the Vasco area are currently plagued by coal transportation for the past several years. Despite their repeated calls for a halt to coal transportation, the government and Port authorities have failed to take any concrete steps, affecting the citizens’ health.
Amidst the protests and agitations by Vascoites, now the villagers in Sattari taluka fear large scale coal transportation.
Locals reveal that large scale coal transportation is undertaken in the area, and the citizens will have to face serious consequences in the near future if it is not stopped right now.
The citizens have demanded that coal transportation should be stopped immediately.
Sattari is a beautiful nature-blessed taluka, and its forests are known as the lungs of Goa. The people of this area are happy and satisfied without any pollution. However, in the name of development, various pollution projects are being set up in this place.
Currently, there is a problem with coal transportation in Sattari taluka. The coal is transported through trucks, which has led to massive pollution on roads.
Locals say the coal is transported from the main roads of Honda, which is harmful to citizens.
Due to monsoons, the pollution may not be much, but the situation could reach alarming levels once the monsoons settle down.
Honda is currently breathing fresh air after mining transportation has stopped. But the sudden transportation of ore has irked the villagers.
According to the information provided by the citizens, the coal trucks are not covered by tarpaulins properly, and the coal dust spreads in the air with the wind..
Locals say the Honda Panchayat needs to raise its voice in this regard.
But they feel that due to the government’s financial packages, their mouths have been shut, due to which no action has been initiated.
