PUNE: A military achievement by Major Jeffrey Carvalho has brought pride to his family and the Goan community, with the Army officer receiving the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Commendation Card of the Eastern Command.
The distinction acknowledges his service, leadership and professional conduct during his operational tenure in Manipur, where he served in a challenging environment.
The commendation was announced on Independence Day. Major Carvalho was subsequently presented with a Commendation Medal along with an appreciation letter from Lt Gen Bhuwanan Krishnan, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command.
Major Carvalho has strong links with Goa despite being based in Pune. He is the son of John and Jacinta Carvalho and the nephew of Jesuit priest and Konkani scholar Fr Pratap Naik SJ.
He is a parishioner of St Anthony Parish in Shivajinagar and pursued his schooling at Vidya Bhavan, Pune, before completing his graduation from Fergusson College. He later joined the armed forces and went on to serve in operational roles.
The recognition has been particularly significant for his relatives and well-wishers in Goa, given the family’s longstanding connection with the state.
Members of the local community have congratulated Major Carvalho and his family on the military honour and expressed their wishes for his continued service and success.
