PANAJI: Days after the 2/3rd split, the Congress President has appointed Yuri Alemao as Leader, Congress Legislature Party (CLP), Goa, with immediate effect.
“Congress President has appointed Yuri Alemao as Leader, Congress Legislature Party (CLP), Goa with immediate effect,” the official communication from the AICC states.
The Congress had earlier removed its former CLP leader Michael Lobo for alleged anti-party activities.
The Congress High Command had to choose the new leader from teh only three MLAs – Yuri Alemao, Adv Carlos Alvares Fereira and Altone Fernandes.
Yuri Alemao, who is a trained commercial pilot, took up important issues in the just concluded Assembly session, which may have given him an advantage.
“I am trained to fly an aircraft & trained to navigate through turbulence. I have a responsibility to fulfil my commitment given to Cuncolkars & Goemkars. I am not a commodity to be purchased. I don’t have a price tag. I will work hard with utmost dedication & honesty to live up to the expectations of the People of #Goa. God is great,” Yuri had tweeted after 8 MLAs quit the party to join BJP.
MLAs Digambar Kamat, Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, Kedar Naik, Rajesh Phaldesai, Sankalp Amonkar, Rudolf Fernandes and Aleixo Sequeira joined the BJP after passing a resolution in a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP).
During their Delhi visit, the group also met party president J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Meanwhile, Congress had earlier removed its former CLP leader Michael Lobo for alleged anti-party activities.
The Opposition benches will now be occupied by three Congress MLAs, two from AAP and one each from Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans Party.
