CANACONA: In a fatal mishap, a man from Zamblimoll(Shrishthal)-Canacona was killed when he was knocked down by a truck on the Canacona Manohar Parrikar Bypass Road (MPCBR) at Bhaireliwada-Canacona in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to reports, the incident took place at about 2.40 am, when a pedestrian, John Santan Fernandes of Zamblimol-Shristhal was struck by an interstate truck, driven by Raghvendra Ayyer of Murudeshwar-Bhatkal, Karnataka.
The driver on the wheels of the Eicher Insultator vehicle bearing registration no.KA47A 0919 is accused of driving in a rash and negligent manner endangering human life while proceeding from Kundapur-Karnataka towards Ratnagiri –Maharashtra. Canacona police further accused the Truck driver of reaching near Scrapyard on the road to Bhairelawada driving the vehicle speedily and giving a dash against pedestrian John Santan Fernandes, resident of Zamblimoll, Shristhal, Canacona. Fernandes succumbed to his injuries.
Incidentally, Fernandes, who is employed in the Gulf, was on vacation for the last four days. Police are reportedly investigating how the victim a resident of Zamblimoll (Shristhal) came to walk on the Bypass road in the Bhagatwada area at an unearthly hours, informed sources.
Further investigation is being conducted by LPSI Anjali Gaonkar.
