The Special Court, Panjim on Friday rejected bail application of Anjuna panch
Hanumant Govekar, arrested in a case of extortion last week ehile another panch Surendra
Govekar, was fortunate to be granted conditional bail.
The Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) had arrested two panch members Hanumant and Surendra for allegedly demanding bribe from a businessman Samar Merchant.
The complainant had lodged a complaint alleging that Surendra, Sheetal and Hanumant have been demanding extortion amount from him. “One of the panch members of the opposition
Anjuna panchayat Surendra Govekar accused him (Merchant) of carrying out illegal activities on his property at Ozran beach. To the best of his abilities, this panch tried to defame and scare him after publicizing false news. When Merchant tried to amicably resolve the
misunderstanding, he was met with demands for huge sums which was to be shared by three of them including Hanumant and Sheetal,” a press statement stated.
It was hereafter that Merchant approached the ACB with a formal complaint against the trio. Sheetal who is on the run had applied for anticipatory bail and the order has been reserved for Monday.
