SANVORDEM: Sanket Arsekar has urged the BJP to assess his work and contribution in the Sanvordem constituency, saying that as a newcomer, he has no anti-incumbency and does not carry any negative image.
“Sanvordem is considered a BJP stronghold, yet the party may have to face defeat in the constituency. If the BJP fields a new candidate, the chances of winning could improve,” Arsekar said.
He pointed out that the BJP has experimented with giving opportunities to new candidates in states such as Gujarat and Delhi and has seen success with the approach. According to Arsekar, sitting candidates generally face greater anti-incumbency, while newcomers do not carry the same political baggage.
Arsekar said he would not need to contest the election as an independent if the BJP conducts a survey to identify a candidate capable of winning the constituency and considers him for the party ticket.
“If the BJP wants to win the Sanvordem constituency, it will certainly have to consider giving me the party ticket,” Arsekar said.
