PORVORIM: Admitting that there could be flaws in the technology proposed for the Atal Setu project, the State government today has decided to repair the road at the cost of the Contractor.
“No defects other than potholes are observed in the work of Atal Setu. The potholes are being rectified at their own cost by the Contractor; the Atal Setu will be fully operational by 31st December 2022,” said CM Sawant.
PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral said that work of four laning between Karaswada and Bambolim is yet to be completed, and the work is governed by the EPC contract and has a DLP defect liability period of 4 years, during which the Contractor is obliged to maintain in the assets created by him in safe, working conditions.
“The work and its quality in entirety as required vide approved sanction by the Ministry is monitored by Authority’s Engineer appointed by the Ministry,” he said.
The Minister further informed that the work is in two stretches, namely from Karaswada to Sangolda junction and from Merces junction to Bambolim. The required signages, including speed limit signages in both the stretches, have been provided.
“The roughness of the road has been rectified, required road markings. have been provided by the Contractor and work of street lighting is also completed. Rumbler strips have been provided as speed calming measures wherever advised by Traffic Police. Other safety measures like providing traffic signals are in process,” Minister added.
Meanwhile, Cabral said that the Government is committed to providing safe and motorable roads to road users, and there is no reason for the people to have any fear or anxiety in their minds on this account.
