CANACONA: The 13th Sankalp Din will be celebrated on 25th May at Amone on the martyrdom of two tribal youths who sacrificed their lives at the infamous UTAA-led Balli Agitation in the year 2011.
Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, under whose leadership the ST youths agitated at the UTAA-led protests at Balli on 25th May 2011 addressing a press meet on Thursday informed that neither the government nor the tribal people have forgotten the martyrdom of the two tribal leaders Mangesh Gaonkar (Gaondongrim) and Dilip Velip (Balli).
‘Their contribution and sacrifices to force the then congress government to implement the already approved Tribal Bill in the year 2003, has led to the tribal community getting 25 different schemes for the development and welfare of the tribal people’.
‘We know the Tribal status bill inspite of being passed in 2003, congress has not given the rights ST people are eligible, because of that person has to resort to Balli agitation, and two tribal youths Mangesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip were martyred at this agitation o 25th May 22011. In 2012 BJP came to power, and I had an opportunity to lead the Tribal Welfare Ministry as minister in the BJP government, under which 25 different schemes were introduced for the ST people.”
“As we have done in the past, this year too Balram Education Society and Adarsh Yuwa Sangh will observe this day (25th May) as the 13th Sanlkap-Din’ to commemorate and celebrate the Swayaranbhumi of our two ST youth Martyr’s who laid their lives for the welfare of the ST people. The function will be held at Balram Residential High School, Amone at 10 am, where all the well-wishers and members of Balram Education Society and Adarsh Yuwa Sangh will participate in large numbers.
