VASCO: On 1st August, Base Support Facility (Goa), an aviation maintenance unit of INS Hansa, completed 25 Years of service to the nation.
According to a Naval press release,
Since 1st Aug 1997, the unit has undertaken the arduous task of providing maintenance support to Russian Origin aircraft at Goa Naval Area viz., Ilyushin (IL 38), Kamov 25 and Kamov 28.
“The last 25 years have witnessed transformative inductions and upgrades about Russian Aircraft. Today, BSF (Goa) provides unbridled technical support to Kamov 31 (AEW Helicopters), upgraded IL 38SD (Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft) and MIG 29K/ KUB (Fifth Generation Fighters).” said the press note
“While the primary role of the unit is turned round of aircraft during major scheduled and unscheduled technical inspections, there are critical core duties viz Quality Assurance Inspections, training of Officers and Sailors, user trials of Aircraft items and workshop testing of Aviation equipment, which the unit discharges with concreted professionalism. In addition, BSF (Goa) has stood the test time on umpteen operational challenges which have majorly involved time – critical preparation of ship-borne aircraft for fulfilling tactical objectives.” said the press note
*As Base Support Facility (Goa) marks its 25th anniversary on 01 Aug 22, the event draws energy and class from the grandiose ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, just a few weeks away. The officers and sailors of BSF (Goa) commemorated the ‘Portal of Technical Excellence’ by conducting a cycling expedition, Cultural evening, and Rotary Rain Run in association with Rotary Club at Goa.” said the press note.
