PANAJI: BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade today filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha polls scheduled for July 24.
BJP Goa Unit this morning had officially announced Sadanand Shet Tanavade as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat.
“I am very grateful to the BJP Leadership and CM Sawant for giving me the opportunity to contest the Rajya Sabha polls. I have filed my nominations in the presence of BJP and Ind Supporting MLAs,” said Tanavade after filing his nomination.
He further said that BJP will speak to all MLAs for their support.
The term of the incumbent MP, Vinay Tendulkar, the first BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Goa, ends on July 28.
The BJP core committee on Saturday had unanimously agreed that its state president, Sadanand Shet Tanavade, would be the party’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha election scheduled on July 24.
The last date for filing nominations is on July 13, after which the nominations will be scrutinised on July 14. July 17 is the last date for withdrawing nominations.
The Bharatiya Janata Party currently has 33 seats in the Goa Legislative Assembly, including those who have given support from outside.
Along with these seats from West Bengal, elections will be held for four Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat and Goa.
Since 2020, Tanavade has been leading the Goa unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after previously serving as a member of the Goa legislative assembly from 2002 to 2007.
