PANAJI: The President of Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Bina Naik on Tuesday said that it is irony on the part of BJP, that on the one hand Prime Minister Narendra Modi is boasting of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ concept, and on the other hand BJP’s Goa unit depriving womenfolk from the post of deputy Mayor of Panaji.
“Despite there being around 13 women elected and some of them have served as councilors, BJP has failed to give them the post of deputy mayor.” Bina Naik said.
Bina Naik on Tuesday addressed a press conference in Congress House Panaji and said it is a shame on the part of BJP. GPCC vice president Amarnath Panajikar was also present on the occasion.
“I am not surprised that womenfolk of BJP are mum over this new development in Panaji Municipal Corporation, and I know that will not speak in this regard.” Naik said.
Bina Naik said that BJP doesn’t want women to come forward and hold the posts. “In Congress such discrimination has never taken place and it will never take place. Our party knows to respect everyone, including women. We recognize the ability of women and give them the position they deserve.” Naik said.
She further said that, BJP doesn’t take action on rape accused persons, but tries to leave them scot free. “Such incidents we have seen in Goa, we know BJP doesn’t respect women.” She said.
Meanwhile, Panjikar said that the Goa government cancelled the Shigmotsav, but has decorated the city with Shigmotsav theme for 30 per cent commission.
“BJP will get commission out of this decoration and hence they have not cancelled this order of decoration.” He charged.
He demanded that the government should give compensation to all groups taking part in Shigmotsav, as they practice for long and buy required things to partake in Shigmotsav.
“The act of the BJP government is clear that they want to deprive Bahujan Samaj in every field.” Panajikar said.
