PONDA: With frequent damages and repairs that lead to the bridge’s closure, the Borim locals have demanded a new bridge citing that the existing bridge is outdated and corroded.
Borim locals want a permanent solution to Borim bridge, saying the bridge life expired.
“There should not be any more wastage of money on repairs,” locals say.
Borim former Sarpanch and sitting panch member Sunil Sawkar said the Borim bridge has completed its life span of 30 years and that Borim locals now don’t want repairs to Borim bridge but want a permanent solution with a new Bridge and Bypass road.
He said this is the only bridge in Ponda Taluka that connects South Goa with North Goa, but all this year’s there are only temporary repairs to bridge and road carpeting.
“The road condition remains worst with several potholes on the bridge,” “he said.
“On the backdrop of VIP visits like President of India and Home Minister Amit Shah, the bridge road carpet is replaced, but this should not be a temporary solution,” he said.
He said all along the bridge, the street lights are not functioning.
PWD officials said the now old carpet is removed and will be replaced with DC carpet.
The locals also demanded to repair and illuminate the street lights.
