CURCHOREM:
The declaration of a 500-meter land as a buffer zone around teh Solid Waste Management Plant in Cacora has led to fierce protests in the Wodlemol-Kakoda municipal area.
A protest took place in the municipal area of Wodlemol Kakoda on Sunday evening as the area has been declared as a development zone.
Opposing the buffer zone, Anand Prabhudesai said that local MLA Nilesh Cabral is misleading the people on the buffer zone, and in the last few years, he has been misleading the people for his own selfish interest by telling the stories.
He said that the 500-meter area around the Cacora waste project has been declared as a buffer zone, so no development work will be sanctioned in Cacora village, and it will remain as a restricted area only.
He said that he went to the Town and Country Planning office and took details and was surprised to see the details.
Prabhudesai further said that they also raised this issue in the ordinary meeting of Curchorem-Cacora municipality and the six councillors who are with them opposed it and put a resolution before the municipality.
“If our demands are not met, we will not hesitate to move the court,” he said.
Anand Prabhudesai said that the local MLA claims the buffer zone was declared in 1994, but then how projects like polytechnics and courts came into the buffer zone in this restricted area, it is clear that the local MLA is misleading the people of Cacora.
Kudchade Congress Block President Pushkar Sawant said we are also against this buffer zone.
“When the waste treatment project came to Cacora, I protested when the waste project was coming up, but no one supported me at the time, and the main thing is that the waste project is in the municipal area, so how can the local MLA decide on it,” Sawant said.
Curchorem Cacora Municipal chairperson Vishwas Sawant said that while some people are now protesting against it, they have travelled abroad to Germany to study the project and see the waste project in the country. “Why they did not oppose that time?” he asked.
