CANACONA – Canacona is all decked up even as preparations are in full swing to welcome Ganesha, even as several residents rush to make last-minute purchases in Canacona.
While idol artists are ready with the idols, some of the devotees who have given specific orders for specific preparations of the elephant-faced Ganapati Idols are visiting the workshops to approve the works.
The commercial Chaudi town is witnessing a heavy rush of people making various purchases, including the decorations and dresses, while many are also on a buying spree of Matoli and other items needed for the rituals and conduct of Aarthi during the festivities.
There was hardly any space for parking vehicles, as the entire commercial hub got choked up, leaving little space for public movements. Traffic police were finding it hard to regulate the traffic, while motorists, as well as two-wheeler riders, were rushing in from all sides.
The scene at almost all the Ganesh workshops in Canacona is of decorative nature.
The Idols are ready, and artists, after examining each and every idol, provide touch services wherever needed. A few of the families who had ordered a particular type of Ganesha Idols are also visiting the workshops for their pieces of artwork, some giving final suggestions and getting the touch-ups done.
While the household idols, especially ordered or otherwise, are ready for delivery, artists are also busy installing the different idol figures in Sarvajanik Ganesh’s manuals.
‘Though large-sized, some Sarvajanik manuals have ordered a single piece/figure of only Ganesh idol, which will be installed only on the day. However, the installation works at a few other mandals were almost started. A fortnight ago, to set up the scene with different figures, only the main Ganesha will be installed in the first day of the festival ‘, informed an artist at Canacona.
Incidentally, two of the main Ganesh workshops are located in Char-rasta, together accounting for more than five hundred idols worshipped in households, besides at several other Sarvajanik pandals.
