CANACONA: Chairing the first meeting of the Canacona Shigmosthav Samittee, Chairman and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar directed the officers to hold the extravagant show with a full-proof disciplined planning and minimal public inconveniences during the parade.
The shigmosthav parade traditional taken on the NH-66 road, the main street section from Char-Rasta to Chaudi has often leads to criticism for inconveniencing the general public during the floats, and just before the year of Covid lockdown, the shigmosthav floats were held on the Bypass (now opened and christened Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass) to avoid traffic snarls on NH-66 from Chaudi to Char-rasta.
However, this year, it has been decided that the Shigmosthav floats will start from under the Flyover of Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road at Char-Rasta at 4.30 pm and conclude at Shri Gaitonde Maidan at Chavadi. A few of the competitions will also be held at the Gaitonde Ground where a stage will be set-up for grand function and prize distributions.
‘ It will be ensured that no traffic is disrupted anywhere during the floats this. As the highway traffic (on MPCBR) will not be affected in any manner, the NH-66 road from Nagorcem to Shri Gaitonde Maidan will be closed for general traffic Only during the time of the Floats parade. However, Emergency vehicles will be permitted/ released through this route, while all other vehicles will be having safe passage through Xeller-Ponsulem route and neither highway nor internal traffic will be blocked or hindered anywhere’, informed Canacona Shigmosthav Committee Working President Babesh Borkar.
