CANACONA: Canacona police have confiscated 1100 litres of different types of Liquor (mixture of IMFL and local brews) valued over Rs.1.85 lakhs from a Storeroom on Polem beach, the Goa-Karnataka bordering coastline on the midnight of Tue-Wed.
Police suspects, the mixture of different brands of IMFL and Local Brews of Cashew and Palm was stocked near the Polem beach coast for onward shipments to Karwar in Karnataka through the sea-route of Polem coast.
Canacona police have arrested one Raju Naik, and placed three others under detention as suspects for illegal stocking and shipments of the consignments.
According to SDPO Canacona Tikam Singh Verma, the patrol team (consisting of a ASI and two others) during its routine round at Polem reportedly saw some suspicious movements in a certain area and on questioning, a person led the team to a house. After searching the house, police found liquor consignments stocked inside, and accordingly the police station was alerted and Canacona PI, PSI and other policemen reached the spot.
DySP Verma however, asseted that neither Canoe nor any movements to ship the consignment through the sea were not noticed, but the illegally stocked mix-liquor consignment consisting of IMFL and other local produce were confiscated as the suspect could not produce any valid receipts of the liquor stocks found. The confiscation was carried out between Tuesday midnight to two hours (00.00-02.00 hrs)of Wednesday.
One Raju Naik is arrested and three others involved in illegal stocking of the liquor are placed under detention.
Verma further informed that following information that sea-route is used to transport liquor illegally to Karwar via boats, etc, the routine patrolling of the coast is intensified, particularly on the porous border of Polem-Majali.
Verma further informed that since the arrests pertains to Excise department, the confiscated liquor stock and the arrested person, alongwith the detained people will be handed over to the Excise Department for the further investigation.-
