MARGAO: Madganvcho Awaaz and Youth Leader Prabhav Naik have appealed to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to cancel the proposed inaugural fanfare event of the Porvorim Flyover scheduled on 9th September 2026 and open it directly for public use.
In a letter addressed to Gadkari, Prabhav Naik highlighted the immense loss of life and widespread destruction caused by the devastating floods in Nepal, which have left thousands of families distressed, with several Indian citizens also reportedly affected and missing.
“At a time when Nepal is facing such a grave humanitarian tragedy, celebrations and extravagant ceremonies would be insensitive. Humanity and compassion must take precedence over ceremonial fanfare,” stated Prabhav Naik.
He urged the Union Ministry to utilise the expenditure earmarked for the inauguration, or contribute an equivalent amount through the appropriate Government of India mechanism, towards rescue, rehabilitation and humanitarian relief efforts in Nepal.
Naik said that such a compassionate gesture would demonstrate sensitive and responsible governance while further strengthening India’s enduring friendship and solidarity with Nepal during its gravest hour of need.
“The Porvorim Flyover can be opened directly for public use without an elaborate ceremony. Cancelling the fanfare and supporting the distressed people of Nepal would set a meaningful example that public welfare and humanity come before celebration,” concluded Prabhav Naik.
