PONDA: Ponda Police have registered a case after a Maruti Ritz car allegedly moved away while the petrol dispensing nozzle was still connected to the vehicle at a petrol pump in Curti, resulting in damage to the dispensing unit and a reported loss of nearly ₹10 lakh.
According to the complaint filed by Kaushal Sahakari, partner of Sahakari Petroleum, Curti, the incident occurred on July 16, 2026, at the petrol pump in Curti.
The complaint states that the accused driver/owner of the Maruti Ritz had arrived at the pump for refuelling. While petrol was being dispensed, the driver allegedly started and moved the vehicle forward without ensuring that the dispensing nozzle had been removed from the fuel tank.
As a result, the nozzle allegedly remained connected to the vehicle and the dispensing unit was pulled from its foundation. The incident reportedly damaged the pipeline connected to the underground storage system, leading to the leakage of approximately 9,603 litres of petrol.
The value of the lost petrol has been estimated at ₹9,98,231, according to the complaint. The complainant also alleged that the manner in which the vehicle was driven endangered the lives and personal safety of people present at the petrol pump.
Ponda Police registered FIR No. 90/2026 under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Ashish Velip of Ponda Police Station.
