Panaji: The State Level Civil Services Carrom Tournament 2026-27 concluded successfully after three days of competitive action, bringing together government employees from departments across Goa in a celebration of sportsmanship and fitness.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Goa, the tournament was held from July 21 to 23 and witnessed enthusiastic participation from civil servants competing in multiple categories.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr Ajay R. Gaude, Director of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa, along with senior officials, participants and sports enthusiasts.
In the women’s singles category, Navita Satardekar of the Health Department clinched the championship, while Sania Kolambkar from the Electricity Department finished runner up. The men’s singles title was won by Ajit Borkar of the Directorate of Rural Development after an impressive campaign, with Ghanshyan Kerkar of the Electricity Department securing second place.
The women’s doubles crown went to the Electricity Department duo of Sania Kolambkar and Lalita Bekwadkar, while Navita Satardekar and Maya Prabhudesai of the Health Department finished as runners up.
In the men’s doubles event, Malang Raila and Mahesh Gawade from the Health Department emerged champions after defeating Umakant Naik and Vaibhav Palni of the Art and Culture Department in the final.
The Veterans (50+) category was won by Malang Raila of the Health Department, with Govind Shirdonkar of the PWD Department taking the runner up position. In the Persons with Disabilities category, Joseph D’Souza from the North Collectorate claimed the title, while Krishna Chari of IPHB finished runner up.
The tournament attracted 85 participants in men’s singles, 60 in men’s doubles, 21 in women’s singles, 12 in women’s doubles, 12 in the veterans category and 16 in the Persons with Disabilities category.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dr Gaude congratulated all participants and winners, highlighting that such events promote fitness, teamwork and a strong sporting culture among government employees while strengthening camaraderie across departments.
