PANAJI: Club Filmatics, established on September 13, 2023, formed its official council with Keshvino Pires as President, Devonna Gomes as Vice-President, Joel Rodrigues as Treasurer, and Mario Pimenta as the media coordinator. The inaugural event welcomed esteemed guests including “Wagro” Director Sainath Usaikar and Producer Rajnath Pednekar.
Following the inaugural, Media Publicity Secretary Danika D’sa resigned in October, subsequently, Keshvino Pires stepped down as president. However, during a pivotal session on February 10, 2024, with IFFI filmmakers, Devonna Gomes and Joel Rodrigues were promoted to president and vice president, respectively, while Mario Pimenta retained his role as media coordinator.
Post-inaugural, a two-day practical workshop on light, sound, and camera was conducted by Photographer, Aliston Dias. The women-led club also celebrated International Girl Day. Additionally, editing and filmmaking workshops by Vardhan Dhaimodkar and Kapil Deev were organized in the same year.
February 2024 marked significant milestones, with workshops by renowned journalist Praveena Sharma, the IFFI Filmmaking trio and film screenings and interactions featuring French filmmakers. The club also celebrated Valentine’s Day with a unique perspective on love beyond romance.
Under the leadership of Sonika Lotlikar, an actress and women entrepreneur of South Mouth, Club Filmatics leveraged industry connections to bring talented professionals and filmmakers to the college. Devonna Gomes assumed leadership after Keshvino Pires, playing a pivotal role in organizing sessions and events.
Joel Rodrigues, as vice president, managed club finances and provided valuable leadership. Mario Pimenta, despite initially contesting for the presidency, excelled as a media coordinator, utilizing creative promotional methods through PR and social media.
The pinnacle of Club Filmatics’ achievements was Goa’s First Intercollegiate Media Event, “Filmbuster,” organized in collaboration with the Mass Communication department. The event, filling a void for media students, drew eminent personalities from the film and media industries, with veteran director Rajendra Talak as the chief guest.
Behind the scenes, Content Creator, Jeshawn Fernandes; Photographer, Eden Pires; Campus Chronicles Editor, Rameez Shaikh; Cultural Secretary, Sarah Cabral, and over 60 volunteers supported the event. The success of “Filmbuster” was a testament to the leadership, creativity, and teamwork of Club Filmatics, alongside the broader Don Bosco College Panjim community.
