PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured the Goa Assembly that an inquiry will be conducted into allegations of pressure being exerted on Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) officers to grant permissions to a proposed fish meal plant of M/s Goan Mariane Impex at Cuncolim.
The assurance came after Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao raised the issue on the floor of the House and sought an inquiry into the alleged pressure on municipal officials. Alemao also called for an examination of the withdrawal of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) consent granted to the project.
Alemao raised wider environmental concerns in Cuncolim, alleging that the fish meal plant had resumed operations and was causing air pollution in the area. He demanded immediate action against units allegedly operating in violation of environmental and regulatory requirements.
The Opposition Leader also raised concerns over M/s Sunrise Electromat, alleging that the unit was operating without the required consent from the GSPCB.
Responding to the concerns, Chief Minister Sawant said the allegations would be inquired into and that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
