MARGAO: Sugarcane Farmers Facilitation Committee Chairman Narendra Sawaikar today said that
government has released Rs 600 per tonne as compensation to the sugarcane growers.
CM has assured that the process for compensation will start by next week, he added.
“Rs 64 lakh have been sanctioned towards harvesting to 800 farmers,” said Sawaikar.
“Rs. 1.5823 crore for 800 farmers sanctioned and deposited in sugar factory account as promised to the farmers by Govt,” said Agriculture Minister Babu Kavlekar
He said that balance amount will be disbursed tomorrow.
The minister informed that the government is working to make the sugar factory functional as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the farmers have announced that they will go on strike from tomorrow and that their agitation will be withdrawn only after a written assurance from govt over payment modalities for standing crop till Sanjivani Sugar factory is made operational.
