PANAJI: Goa’s state representative on the GST Council since 2017 has been Minister Mauvin Godinho. He has been replaced as a permanent member by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
The CM’s nomination for the GST Council is mentioned in a June 14 communiqué from the Department of Finance to the Joint Secretary (GST Council Secretariat) in Delhi.
In accordance with clause 2(1)(iii) of the Procedure and Conduct of Business Regulation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, the Goa government has determined that Pramod Sawant, the chief minister and finance minister, will serve as the state’s permanent representative on the GST Council. All upcoming GST Council meetings will be attended by the CM, according to the order, which Under Secretary of Finance Pranab Bhat signed.
Unlike other states where Finance Ministers are State representatives, Godinho spoke on behalf of Goa when interacting with the chairperson of the GST Council, the Union Finance Minister, and other members.
