PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today said that discussions on political reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs) are progressing, with various demands and concerns currently under examination by the government. He also indicated that the vacant positions in the state Cabinet are expected to be filled shortly.
Addressing the media after his visit to New Delhi, Sawant said the issue of ST political reservation remains under active consideration and consultations are continuing at different levels. He noted that several proposals linked to the matter are being reviewed before a final decision is taken.
The Chief Minister also confirmed that the government is moving ahead with plans to fill vacant ministerial berths, adding that an announcement on the Cabinet expansion is likely in the near future.
Speaking about his meetings in the national capital, Sawant said he held discussions with Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav on a range of Goa-related matters. According to the Chief Minister, the Union Minister gave a positive assurance that the pending environmental issues raised by the state would be addressed.
Sawant described the discussions as constructive and said the Centre had responded positively to the concerns presented by the Goa government. He expressed confidence that the matters discussed would move towards resolution in the coming months.
The Chief Minister’s Delhi visit also included meetings with other Union Ministers to seek support for various development projects and policy matters concerning the state.
