VASCO: Indian Coast Guard, Goa area, conducted a unique event of ‘yoga’ on Sunday at Velsao beach from 6.30 am to 7.30 am. About 250 persons from Coast Guard, the fishing community, and locals, including ladies & children, participated.
The event was conducted to educate and motivate the local populace by highlighting the fact that Yoga can be performed anywhere to keep the body, soul, and mind healthy.
The message of Yoga in promoting both the physical and mental well-being of humanity has never been more relevant. A growing trend of people around the world embracing Yoga to stay healthy and rejuvenated and to fight social isolation and depression has been witnessed during the COVID -19 pandemic. Yoga is also playing a significant role in psycho-social care.
Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, harmony between man and nature, and a holistic approach to health and well being.
It is not about exercise but about discovering the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature. Changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness can help in well being. Yoga has been beneficial in keeping the body and mind in sound health, and the mind is renewed with confidence. The energy that is generated in the body through physical practices is then channelled into mediation or Dhyan for stability, peace and calm.
It is particularly helpful in allaying their fears and anxiety. Recognizing the Important role of Yoga in ongoing efforts of the government for the “International yoga day” in line with the vision of the Prime Minister’s appeal for mass celebration and to bring awareness to the local community.
