MARCEL: Considering the huge queues and traffic congestion, commuters from Sattari, Sakhlim, Marcel have demanded a flyover at railway level-crossing at Gaundali-Old Goa road.
According to commuters, when the level-crossing gate is closed, there is a huge traffic jam.
After the gates are opened, it causes chaos on both sides.
According to commuters, the distance reduces by five km from Amona Khandola bridge towards Panaji-GMC, the Gaundali-Old Goa road.
Due to this, the traffic has been increased on this route as it shortest distance to Panaji, GMC.
The necessity for a flyover has increased as the number of vehicles plying towards this road has increased enormously after three bridges, namely Amona, Cumbharjua and Gaundali bridge.
Locals said even Chief Minister Pramod Sawant travels from Sakhalin through this route every day.
Hence, the people are demanding a flyover to avoid traffic congestion at the railway level-crossing.
Whenever the railway gate is closed, hundreds of vehicles are seen stranded on the road, recently becoming one of the busiest roads.
Moreover, the ambulances use the road to ferry patients from the Sattari and other areas in critical condition.
Commuters say that common people, students, and professionals have to spend their valuable time in vain by stopping at the level crossing.
They say that the trains pass several times in a day which makes life difficult for commuters on the road.
