CANACONA: Team Vision & Mission, progressive Canacona have filed a police complaint against PWD officials for supplying toxic, contaminated water through the Parve-Betul, Agonda water tank/plant and made demands to register FIR and investigate the matter for risking people’s lives to protect the lives of thousands of unsuspecting innocent people.
Team Vision & Mission Progressive Cancon has raised the issue of toxic, contaminated water supply to the public tap from the Water/ Plant at Parvem-Betul, Agonda. We have submitted a complaint to Canacona Police and demanded to register an FIR against the PWD (Water-Supply) for supplying contaminated, toxic water to the public and exposing the lives of innocent people to health disease’, informed Janardhan Bhandari.
“Complaint against the PWD Officers for negligence in their duties and intentionally putting the lives of thousands of innocent people of Agonda Village and surrounding area endangered by supplying contaminated, unhygienic, unfiltered water,” he said.
He said they raised the issue of contaminated, toxic, unhygienic water supply from the Water Plant/Tank of PWD at Parvem-Betul-Agonda to Agonda Village and surrounding areas.
“The same issue of toxic, unhygienic water supply from the water plant at Parvem-Betul was discussed in the Gram Sabha of Agonda. Even a joint inspection was done by the elected representative along with the officers of PWD. But the PWD officers failed to take remedial measures to improve the quality of water and instead continued to supply the same dirty water to Agonda and surrounding areas’,” he stated
Further in the police complaint, ‘When we visited the plant at Parve, Betul-Agonda along with some other vigilant villagers of Agonda, we found the entire site of the plant in a very pathetic condition. The entire area of the plant is in a totally messy condition, bushes/plants/small trees are growing everywhere. The tank where water is stored was wide open, without any cover,” Bhandari stated.
A rusted, broken, half wooden-half iron ladder was inside the tank and the entire water inside was muddy, and heavily contaminated. The Filter installed at the site for purifying the water is not only in non-functional condition, but its overall condition is really appalling.
The same unhygienic, muddy water in the tank then without filtering it, was lifted to the overhead tank to supply the same to Agonda Village and surrounding areas.
Even the pipelines installed at the Water Plant are faulty, rusted and in dreadful condition’, states the complaint.
Even after a hue and cry from people about dirty water, the persons named in the complaint still persist in supplying dirty, disease-prone water through such rusty pipelines to people, thereby exposing innocent people’s lives to health hazards and their sheer criminal negligence, carelessness, insensitiveness has resulted in the supply of contaminated, unhygienic, unfiltered water, thereby putting the lives of thousands of people in Agonda and surrounding areas at risk to various grave diseases.
