PANAJI: Stating that Goa is currently facing the biggest health emergency in its history, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries(GCCI) has urged the state government to consider 15-days strict, structured state-wide lockdown to prevent the spread of Corona Virus and avert further loss of lives.
“The healthcare infrastructure is already on the brink of being overwhelmed, and there is urgent need to take the extreme measure of total lockdown for at least 15 days with a view to arrest the increasing number of positive cases and fatalities and give a much-required breather to revive the healthcare systems and the health workers to rejuvenate and ramp up capacities and capabilities,” said GCCI President Manoj Caculo
He further said that they had so far been reluctant to use the tried and tested method (of lockdown) and seem to be concentrating more on the economic revival rather than survival of the citizens,” lamented the apex business body.
GCCI has however sought that pharmaceutical manufacturers engaged in covid related medicines, ancillary units who are suppliers to these pharmaceutical units, food processing/agro based units , ancillary units who are suppliers to these food processing /agro units , essential commodities manufacturer – food products and water, continuous process industries, suppliers to the above units ( raw material /finished goods /semi finished goods /canteen/packaging etc) to be exempted from lockdown.
