PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the government will take strict action against contractors illegally dumping garbage while stating that vehicles caught would be entitled to permit cancellation.
MLA Viresh Borkar today raised the issue of illegal dumping of garbage by contractors and demanded immediate action.
“Let MLA Viresh Borkar file a police complaint, the government will act; will suspend the permit of such vehicles dumping garbage for 1 year,” said Sawant.
Borkar said trucks are found dumping waste at the site.
Minister Babush said that per the information provided by Goa Waste Management Corporation, it is not mandatory for all local governing bodies to furnish the details of agencies that carry out garbage management/door-to-door waste collection and disposal for local bodies.
“However these local bodies transport waste to Solid Waste Management; the Facility of GWMC have to send details of the vehicle to GWMC through which the waste would be transported and GWMC accordingly authorizes the vehicle to deposit waste on behalf of local bodies,” he added.
Minister also said that as per the information provided by GoaWaste Management Corporation, they have received a letter dated 23/10/2023 from St.Andre (Goa Velha) Village Panchayat regarding a complaint against illegal dumping of wet waste.
