VASCO: Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, on Wednesday afternoon, inspected the Cansaulim grounds along with SAG officials, Cansaulim Sarpanch Savio Pereira, panch members and others
Vas chose to inspect the ground barefooted to personally check for levelling of the ground and further said that, as a footballer, he was not satisfied with the work.
Vas also added that he would not allow the SAG to hand over the ground to the people till he was satisfied with the work taken.
“We have carried out a joint inspection of this ground after I received a lot of complaints from the Sarpanch of the village. I have been a sportsman in the past, and though the ground looks beautiful with lawns, the level could be better. I checked the levelling across the entire ground barefooted, and the levelling of the ground is the most important aspect because it could cause injuries to the players. I have asked the contractor and the SAG to immediately get the levelling sorted, and they have assured me to take steps by using a roller,” said Vas.
“The staff told me that the people got an electric shock on the railings, and I asked them to immediately find out the electrical fault and check because it would backfire on the MLA and the panchayat in the event of any casualty. The ground has to be maintained, the gym will also be updated, and new pieces of equipment will be placed. Until we are not satisfied with the works and all aspects of the grounds, we will not allow the ground to be given to use by the people. We will not allow the ground with incomplete aspects to the people or to sportsmen. As the MLA of the Cortalim constituency and as a SAG member, I want to develop the playgrounds in my constituency, especially the Velsao and Cansaulim grounds. ” said Vas.
Vas said that he and the Sarpanch had personally met sports Minister Govind Gaude to discuss the shops in the ground complex.
“The minister has assured that he will take up the issue with the CM, and a final decision will be taken at the Panchayat level to let out the shops to the locals for carrying out any business here at the earliest,” said Vas.
Cansaulim Sarpanch Savio Pereira said that he was not satisfied with the works of the ground, and he had invited the MLA to inspect the ground.
“The locals are always questioning us on the ground, but the ground has to be fully completed. The main issue is the levelling of the ground, which is the most vital issue for any sport. The ground is very important for the locals, and we have asked the MLA Anton Vas to take the issue up with the authorities and get the works completed so that the infrastructure can be put to use,” said Pereira.
