Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai met with the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco , MMC CO Agnelo Fernandes and Dr Milind Desai to discuss viable solutions and immediate steps to contain the spread of COVID 19 cases across the Margao municipal area. The meeting also considered ways to alleviate the hardships faced by the people and ensure that their needs are met.
Vijai Sardesai said that two COVID-19 Care Centres, one at Margao and one in Fatorda will be immediately set up by the MMC with at least 25 oxygen beds. The participants suggested that each Centre should be staffed with 10 workers at all times which should include doctors and nurses. The MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes pointed out that suitable places to accommodate the COVID Care Centres could be at the Manohar Parrikar Stadium at Navelim and the Nehru Stadium at Fatorda. According to the MMC CO, the infrastructure required at these venues would be worked out, and that there were no disagreements with the suggestions raised.
Sardesai stated, “the people of Goa cannot rely on the CM Pramod Sawant and his government anymore, as the CM is leading people further to their deaths rather than saving their lives.” He added, “if only the CM had understood the necessity to take all MLAs into confidence, and worked as a team, Goa probably would have been in a better situation today.”
Vijai pointed out that the meeting also decided to enlist private doctors from IMA and other organisations, including private clinics. He said, “we need the public and private medical entities to work together; now the only focus is to save Goa, and we all need to be together.” Sardesai said that he, Kamat, and Lourenco have agreed that these 25 bed Centres will require beds, oxygen concentrators and other facilities which will be put in place by way of municipal funds, and also CSR funds from philanthropic organisations from Margao and elsewhere.
Vijai Sardesai thanked Mr Sunil Barua, CEO of Delhivery, a logistic company, for donating two oxygen concentrators, and also all other individuals and entities that are helping Goa during this difficult time.
Vijai Sardesai also made a special mention of thanks to all the frontline staff which include doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, call centre operators, volunteers, storekeepers and all government servants for their “courage, resilience and sacrifice to help the people of Goa.” Sardesai said, “our frontline heroes have put forward ‘the never give up’ attitude of Goa, and all Goemkars are immensely grateful for their selfless sacrifice.” He urged all Goans to pray for their safety and health, and added, “the blessing of Goencho Saib is always with them, and their families.”
