CURCHOREM: Former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar has raised concerns over the alleged growing drug menace in Curchorem, claiming that the town is “fast becoming Goa’s drug capital” under the BJP-led government.
Patkar said the issue came to the fore during his interactions with educational institutions, where concerns were raised about the safety of children and their increasing exposure to drugs.
He announced that a sustained anti-drug awareness campaign would be launched from October, beginning in Curchorem and subsequently extending to other parts of Goa.
“Our children should carry books and dreams, not live under the shadow of drugs. No drugs around our children. No compromise on their safety,” Patkar said.
The campaign, he said, will focus on creating awareness among students, parents and the wider community about the dangers posed by drug abuse.
