PANAJI: Hundreds of people gathered outside Kala Academy, Panaji, where public hearing on draft CZMP is being held. Massive chaos was witnessed as participants not allowed to enter the main gate, if not registered.
The people including stakeholders, villagers and activists demand hearing to be postponed and that village level consultations be held.
The North collector requested for start of presentation for whihc there was opposition from all. The collector requested the persons present to take seats and allow presentation and urged them if they do not want presentation the objections and suggestions could be started.
The villagers, activisits, and stakeholder during the hearing questioned the authorities that they want to know under which notification public hearing was conducted.
One of the Speakers Aruna Wagh alleged that collector had not been following the rules and demanded the reason why venue was changed. Also Kashinath Shetye demanded to know how venue was changed.
“We demand hearing to be postponed and that village level consultations be held,” said stakeholders present for the CZMP hearing.
The first CZMP of Goa was prepared in 1996 and was used as a base plan for 2011 CZMP. The NCSCM has been working on the plan since 2016.
The draft CZMP of Goa was uploaded on http://www.czma.goa. gov.in while hard copies were made available in Collector and Dy Collectors offices of both the districts and offices of municipalities and corporations in the State for general public and stakeholders.
The CZMP has covered shoreline management, conservation management, pollution management, tourism, resource and livelihood management.
Several village Committees have raised storing objection to their village level CZMP and have resolved to reject the same.
