Panjim: The Group Priority State Sub Junior Basketball Championship 2026 witnessed a strong round of performances from Goa’s young basketball talent, with DBSA Fatorda, Lourdes Basketball Club and KJ’s, Miramar securing wins in the boys’ Round of 16 at Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim.
Lourdes Basketball Club, Calangute defeated The Kings H.S., Chandor 20-10. Leroy Pinto led the way for Lourdes with 12 points, while Melwyn Saldanha added eight. Abvik Bhatnagar finished as The Kings H.S. top scorer with six points.
KJ’s, Miramar produced an emphatic 23-2 victory over Loyola Ignatius, Margao. Arnav Mhapne was the standout performer, scoring 16 points to power KJ’s into the next round.
DBSA Fatorda also advanced after defeating St. Thomas BHS, Aldona 27-18. Aarav Dessai was the leading scorer for DBSA with 17 points, while Rafaelo Coelho contributed 14 for St. Thomas BHS.
The girls’ quarter-finals saw DBSA Fatorda dominate OLGHS-B, Bicholim with a commanding 38-2 win. Eva Mascarenhas led the scoring with 14 points, while Jaezel Barreto and Tanya Verma added eight each.
Sunshine Worldwide, Old Goa edged Unplugged Achievers-A, Aldona 15-13 in a closely contested encounter. Aadora Soares scored eight points for Sunshine, while Roshni Polle and Supriya Kumari contributed four points each for Unplugged Achievers.
St. Mary’s GHS, Mapusa comfortably defeated OLGHS-A, Bicholim 26-2, with Valentina Fernandes leading the attack with 11 points.
Unplugged Achievers-B, Aldona completed the girls’ quarter-final lineup with a 25-9 victory over KJ’s, Miramar. Chrysanthe Parras scored 13 points and Stacy Rebello added six for the winners, while Megan Fernandes scored six for KJ’s.
The championship is being organised by Aliens Basketeers in association with the Goa Basketball Association, bringing together some of Goa’s promising U-14 basketball players.
