New Delhi: Delhi Police has transferred a second case registered against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to the Crime Branch, bringing both cases linked to the party leaders under its investigation ahead of a scheduled hearing.
The latest transfer follows the decision to hand over another case involving the two leaders to the Crime Branch on Monday. That case relates to their alleged entry into the Jantar Mantar area, which is no longer designated as an authorised protest site.
According to the police account, the incident took place on October 13, when Das, Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde and 11 other CJP members allegedly entered the Jantar Mantar area by trespassing through private premises. Police personnel deployed at the location intervened and attempted to stop the group.
All 14 individuals were detained following the incident, and two First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered in connection with the alleged violations.
The cases have now been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation, placing the probe into the alleged trespassing and related incidents under a specialised police unit.
Das and Ranka were sent to five days of judicial custody on October 14 by a Special Executive Magistrate for allegedly breaching peace bonds. Their custody was extended by a further two days on Monday.
The transfer of both cases comes as legal proceedings involving the CJP leaders continue. Further developments are expected as the Crime Branch takes up the investigations and the matter progresses through the relevant legal process.
