VASCO: The Mormugao administration has banned the use of DJ music systems during Ganesh Visarjan processions across the taluka, allowing organisers to conduct traditional Dindi processions accompanied by conventional musical instruments.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting convened by the Mormugao Deputy Collector along with Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Wednesday to review preparations for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
Officials from the Police Department, Mormugao Municipal Council and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
The Deputy Collector directed Ganesh mandals and organisers not to use DJ systems during immersion processions and instead follow the traditional Dindi format, with customary musical instruments permitted.
The administration said the move was aimed at ensuring peaceful and disciplined celebrations, while maintaining public safety and minimising inconvenience to residents and motorists during immersion processions.
The meeting also reviewed the registration of Sarvajanik Ganesh pandals in Mormugao taluka. Officials said there are around 40 public Ganesh pandals, but only about 16 have registered so far.
Authorities urged all remaining Ganesh mandals and organisers to complete the registration process. Officials said this would help maintain an accurate record of public celebrations and improve coordination of security, traffic and other arrangements.
Safety during Ganesh immersion was another key focus. Devotees and organisers have been asked to cooperate with Drishti Marine life-saving personnel deployed at immersion points and strictly follow their instructions.
The administration also appealed to citizens to exercise extreme caution while handling and bursting fireworks during the festival to prevent accidents and injuries.
With large numbers of devotees expected to participate in Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and Visarjan processions, authorities have called for collective cooperation to ensure the festival is celebrated safely and peacefully.
