PORVORIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho today informed that house that the state government does not want to go ahead and waste money on building bus stands that become white elephants.
MLA Altone D’Costa had raised the issue of whether the government intends to have a well-equipped bus stand in Quepem
“If you go to see Shiroda, Honda, Cuncolim Bus Stand projects have become white elephants, and Qupem Bus Stand site nearly lies 3 km away from the central town. Thus we are not building any more white elephants,” said Godinho.
He further said there is a need to review the project, and if needed, the state government will go ahead with construction.
“At the moment, we have to focus on improvement of existing bus stands of Panaji, Vasco and Margao,” he added.
Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa questioned the government as to why the foundation stone was laid for the project even when the tender for the same had not been done.
“The people of Quepem were cheated just before elections; if the procedure was not followed, how did government officers go-ahead for a foundation day function? Are the people of Qupem fooled?” D’Costa questioned.
