PANAJI: NOTE-India President Dr Shekhar Salkar today has appealed to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi Ji to intervene against Surrogate/Indirect Tobacco advertisements violating and circumventing national laws on Tobacco like COTPA 2003, Cable TV networks Act 1995, ASIC Code and Ministry of I&B guidelines.
“It was seen that ostentatious proxy hoardings on tobacco products are all over the state, specialy on Mandovi River Bank and Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) buses were blatantly advertising surrogate paan masala products, letters requesting the MD and Chairman of KTC to withdraw from such advertising on immediate basis have already been issued,” said Dr Salkar.
In the past, NOTE India had appealed to Shri Amitabh Bachchan to withdraw from advertising Paan Masala products on National television, the request was honored, and Shri Bacchan has officially withdrawn from such brands and resolved to refrain from promoting such products in future.
“All forms of indirect advertisements of Tobacco must be stopped to strengthen the Anti Tobacco Crusade and safeguard our Children and Youth from Tobacco,” he said.
