PANAJI: In a nail-biting encounter at the 18th Rebello Pandal football tournament, Dragon Boys Borda successfully fought back to secure their spot in the quarterfinals. Their victory against Fatima Boys Baida Chinchinnim, with a thrilling 5-4 scoreline, showcased the team’s resilience and skill. This heart-stopping match at the St. Rita Church ground in Maina Curtorim had spectators on the edge of their seats as goals flew in from both sides.
Dragon Boys Borda’s comeback was nothing short of remarkable, considering Fatima Boys took an early lead. Deral Rebello had set the pace for Fatima Boys, scoring two goals in quick succession at the 5th and 10th minutes. Sherino Gomes and Om Raikar added to the tally with goals in the 20th and 48th minutes, respectively. However, Dragon Boys Borda was not about to let the opportunity slip away. Their stars, Ranzil and Myron, each netted a brace in the 15th, 25th, 40th, and 45th minutes, ensuring the match was finely poised.
The match was decided by a dramatic goal from Shubert in injury time, scoring at the 60+2 minute mark to seal the win for Dragon Boys Borda. This crucial strike stole the show and cemented Dragon Boys’ place in the quarterfinals. Despite the loss, Lewiston Rebello of Fatima Boys was acknowledged for his outstanding performance and named Man of the Match by Caetano Rebello.
