VASCO: The Eid Al Adha festival was celebrated with religious fervour in Port Town on Monday.
The Eid festival began with Muslims visiting mosques in the morning to offer namaz and later visiting friends and family members to exchange greetings. Portions of biryani and meat along with a sweet kheer were also exchanged.
In Vasco, the vibrant festivities of Eid ul Fitr unfolded as Muslim brothers congregated to offer prayers, followed by warm exchanges of greetings. The gathering of some Hindu leaders wishing Muslims on Eid at Masjids symbolized the unity and mutual respect that transcends cultural and religious differences in Vasco, fostering a spirit of harmony and togetherness.
The Eid is an important festival for the Muslims
Meanwhile, the Muslim community members were seen offering Namaz rituals and greeting each other during the festival with the wishes of Eid Mubarak while many people from other religions were also seen greeting Muslims outside the Masjid on the occasion of Eid.
Former Congress Minority Chairman Nazir Khan speaking to the media appealed to all the people to maintain peace and harmony during the festival
“We have offered prayers to Allah the almighty to spread the peace across the world and we also appeal to all our Hindu, Christian and members of other religions to unite to celebrate festivals together so as to spread peace and maintain the communal harmony in Goa,” said Khan.
“We have seen that a large number of people have gathered at the Masjid to offer prayers and we are very happy today as we hug and greet each other. We have seen that our Hindu friends are also around to wish us and this proves that we have always been united in Vasco. We have been given this great opportunity by God to celebrate festivals together and such great moments must be cherished,” said Khan.
