SANKHALI: Government College of Art, Science and Commerce, Sakhalim, recently hosted a series of enriching extracurricular activities designed to provide students with hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of their academic subjects.
Political Science Department Organizes Educational Trips.
The Department of Political Science organized two notable study trips for its students. The first was a visit to a local TV Channel, offering students an opportunity to observe media operations closely. This trip was a part of the practical component of the syllabus, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. Shri Ajit Ghadi and Ms. Shruti Naik, Assistant Professors in Political Science, supervised and guided students throughout the visit.
The second trip was to the Goa Legislative Assembly, where students attended the Budget Session of 2025. This exposure aimed at providing firsthand knowledge of the legislative process and its importance in governance. The trip allowed students to witness the functioning of the state assembly and gain insights into the workings of political institutions.
POSH Act Awareness Talk Held at College.
In an effort to foster a safe academic environment, the College’s Internal Complaints Committee, Counseling, and Value Education Cell organized an informative talk on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace (POSH) Act. The session, held in the college auditorium, was addressed by Vice Principal Rosalina D’Silva, who emphasized the importance of a safe and respectful institutional culture. Adv. Reshmi Sawant, Assistant Professor at V.M. Salgaocar College, was the resource person for the event. She provided valuable insights into the legal framework and practical applications of the POSH Act, aimed at ensuring a safer environment for women within academic institutions.
Field Trip for Tourism and Hospitality Management Students.
The College also organized a field trip for F.Y.B.Sc. Tourism and Hospitality Management students to several historical and cultural sites, including Reis Magos Fort in Verem, the Museum in Panjim, and the St. Augustine Tower in Old Goa. The trip provided students with practical exposure to the tourism and hospitality industry, allowing them to explore significant cultural landmarks while learning about their historical relevance.
These extracurricular activities demonstrate the College’s commitment to providing holistic learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom, ensuring that students are well-equipped to face the challenges of their respective fields.
