CANACONA: A ‘Padeli’ from Canacona, who died in an accidental fall while plucking coconuts, is awarded an Insurance Claim for a number of Rupees Five Lakhs through Coconut Development Board.
Department of Agriculture, who through Canacona Zonal Agriculture Office, has processed the claim, has handed over Rs.5.00 lakhs claim disbursement sanction letter to the nominee of Late Nilu Nagu Velip in the hands of Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar on Tuesday at Canacona.
Late Nilu Nagu Velip, a coconut plucker, has completed ‘Padeli Training’ organised under the Coconut Development Board scheme in the year 2021-22.
He died after an accidental fall from a Coconut Tree while plucking coconuts leaving behind his wife, Nisha Velip and Children.
His insurance was done by the Zonal Agriculture Office Canacona Department of Agriculture, taking the sudden death seriously, and according to sources, the ZAO Canacona Kirtiraj Naikgaunkar has convinced the family to submit the claim and had vehemently followed it up, leading to the process and issuance of sanction letter of the claim amount. However, the claim was delayed by 3-4 months late.
“I thank the horticulture section, especially those who elegantly persuaded this matter, and Coconut Development Board for sanctioning the claim’, informed Naikgaunkar.
Coconut Development Board, under the Central Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, submitted an original discharge voucher death claim settlement of Rs. Five Lakh to Nisha Nilu Velip, wife of the deceased Padeli, to complete Bank formalities. The insurance claim has been obtained from Oriental Insurance Company Limited, stated the sanction letter.
