PANAJI: Panaji Court today has granted conditional bail to accused Amit Naik in the Suleiman Siddique escape case.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court Panaji on Friday adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of suspended Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) constable Amit Naik to Saturday.
Naik has been referred by Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) to IPHB for mental health assessment and treatment.
Naik had attempted to kill himself by eating floor cleaner while confined. He was taken into custody on suspicion of helping infamous land scammer Suleiman, also known as Siddique Khan, get out of the Crime Branch jail.
In order to conduct a fair and transparent investigation into the land grabbing accused Siddiqui alias Suleman Khan escape case, the Old Goa Police on Friday argued before the court that former IRBn constable Amit Naik’s judicial detention is necessary.
According to Suden Redkar, PSI, Old Goa Police Station, who testified in court, the investigation team is working to find the most wanted criminal, Suleman Khan, and if Amit Naik is freed, it will either mislead them or he might destroy the evidence they need to find Suleman Khan.
